Early Behavioural Intervention
Early Behavioural Intervention
It has been proven that with autism the earlier intervention can happen the better. Autism is a neurological condition that affects the brain and when a child is younger, the brain has more ability to change. This makes it easier for us to teach new behaviours, rather than trying to change existing behaviours that have been reinforced.
What about older children?
Anyone can learn new behaviours and learning new behaviours is no different for individuals with autism. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a science that is used in many areas of life and helps people of all ages and abilities. The research shows that intensive behavioural intervention can be effective with not only younger children but children older then 1 years old as well.
Early intensive behavioural intervention (EIBI), is an evidence-based, comprehensive intervention for autism spectrum disorder based on the principles of ABA. Autism Early Intervention has been shown to be associated with the most dramatic improvements in prognosis for children with ASD.
The goal of EIBI is to change a child’s learning so that the child’s rate of learning matches that of a typically developing peer. EIBI is characterized by the following:
Early – Autism Early Intervention begins as soon as a diagnosis is confirmed. EIBI may produce the greatest gains when intervention is started before age 2.
Why is Autism Early Intervention important?
The importance of individualized planning to achieve best practice in providing early intervention supports. Each Early Behavioural Intervention program is tailored to your child’s individual needs in order to promote Development, Wellbeing & Community Participation.
We encourage parents, guardians and families to work with us to enhance your knowledge of the skills and supports needed for your child.
